After the Lawrence public schools made budget cuts that included bus rides for children who live within 2.5 miles of their school, the idea of a walking bus was broached by special operations director Rick Gammill.
Interested parents can attend a walking school bus volunteer coordinator training for the Kansas City metro area from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nutter Ivanhoe Neighborhood Center, 3700 Woodland, Kansas City, Mo.
Some Lawrence parents are planning a walking bus information session at 6 p.m. Wednesday during the LiveWell Lawrence World’s Largest Community Workout at Shenk Fields, 23rd and Iowa streets.
Kansas participants will be eligible to receive stipends and ongoing coaching assistance from Bridging the Gap, a Kansas City group that works to connect the environment, economy and the community.

The walking bus idea is a way of transport for school children and here at TheWalkingBus.co.uk we believe it is the best possible transport for you or your children and in this post will discuss what makes us think it is the best transport for your children and hopefully by the time you have read this you will have your child signed up to a similar scheme.

Safety

your child couldn’t be safer as they are all provided with bright green luminous jackets so it will be a bit of a challenge for your child to get lost. Also a number of parents and even you are involved in walking the children to and from the school.

Social

It is a good time for children and parents to socialise with each over whilst they are walking to the school. It great time for parents to come together and sare interest that they have with the there children and with the school.

Exercise

Some parents are guilty of driving there children to school when it is a 10 – 15 minute walk from there homes. With the walking bus scheme you are providing both exercise for you and your child.

We strongly recommend that you sign up your child or children to this fantastic scheme as it will be very beneficial to you and your child.

The first day of North Liberty’s Garner Elementary’s walking school bus program kicked off with more than 70 students Wednesday.

Students were not the only individuals who showed up for the program’s inaugural walk as North Liberty Mayor Tom Salm,

While Sobocinski said he anticipates the number of students participating in the program – which takes place every Wednesday to and from school – to more than double, he added that the four routes through the school’s district should not have to be altered too much.

“We might have to tweak them slightly but otherwise they should stay the same,” he added.

City Administrator Ryan Heiar and several Johnson County Supervisors awaited the arrival of the student’s and volunteers at Garner Elementary’s front entrance.

This just shows you that people care about school walking buses we believe that it teach young children road safety at a young and that they will pick it up easier as they get older
